October 2005 • Dan Kelly writes ‘Daughter of God’ Script after attending the 2005 Palm Springs Short Fest as editor for Mike Arrons ‘Blind Date’. After attending numerous screenings Dan declares, “I can do that!”
November 2005 • Carmen Althaus cast as ‘Christina’ and Steve Zilliax as ‘Gerry’
December 2005 – March 2006 • Pre-production with Maho Sone. 150 ft Canadian ice breaker ‘Alexander Henry’ selected as location.
April 2006 • Primary shooting in Canada with cast Steve Zilliax (Gerry), Carmen Althaus (Christina) and crew Ann Loeding (Producer), Dan Kelly (Director) Melonie Steffes (Assistant Director) Layna Roberts (Make-up) and a busload of interns from the most prestigious film schools in the known universe. Eiji Sumi almost made it.
Summer 2006 – Spring 2008 • Editing, ADR and additional production. DOG is assembled but requires motion graphics intervention to achieve vision and repair production blunders.
Summer of 2008 • Director dives in with rudimentary After Effects skills, within months is overwhelmed with scope of work.
Fall 2008 • Director begins plan to hire help by liquidating production gear for cash. The USA economy tanks that winter – production gear hard to sell, client base evaporates. Revenue from liquidation goes to pay down existing debt rather than hire help.
January 2009 • Plan to eliminate motion graphic work through radical editing is abandoned when experimental edits raise more problems than they solve. Simultaneously a new documentary feature project ‘On Desire‘ shifts energy away from DOG, immediate completion and release of documentary prequel – 2007 documentary short ‘Almonds‘ – takes precedence.
March 2009 • Editor Faisal Azam offers to workshop DOG for the summer of 2009.
September 2009 • Faisal’s workshop enhances DOG universe.
October 2009 • Return from On Desire / ALM
January 2010 • Contractors hired, plans for finishing DOG and On Desire / ALM prepared.
March 2010 • Contractors defect, DOG on hold, On Desire / ALM in process
Spring 2011 • DOG revived
